Sawadogo: Return of African Heritage

SAWADUGO is a powerful African stage play set in a fictional kingdom that mirrors the struggles and beauty of the continent.
The story follows the unsteady alliance of Five Great Tribes in Africa (North, South, East, West & Central) and each represented by the most significant — embodied by Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, and Congo—as they face internal divisions and the seductive promises of Western powers who arrive cloaked in aid and diplomacy. Amid betrayal, manipulation, and spiritual awakening, a child named Sawadugo is born against all odds, symbolizing the rebirth of African unity and hope. With rich proverbs, poetic dialogue, and emotionally intense scenes, the play explores themes of colonialism, identity, betrayal, and the unstoppable spirit of a people reclaiming their destiny.
